Google is urging advertisers to invest in ads utilizing AI mode, as reported by AdAge. The publication acquired slides from Google showcasing AI Mode ads aimed at prospective buyers.
“Join us in our most powerful AI search experience, as consumers seek answers to their most pressing questions with AI Mode,” one slide indicated. “With the application of Generative AI to Search, Ads will maintain a crucial role in assisting consumers in discovering valuable information and allowing businesses to gain visibility online.”
Google allegedly notified advertisers that the new ads would manifest as text and shopping ads featuring product specifics within AI Mode chats, addressing user prompts.
From a sample in the presentation, the ads are displayed in banners beneath AI search inquiries, labeled with a “Sponsored” tag. The slides characterize the AI Mode advertisements as an “experiment.”
As per AdAge, Google intends to roll out ads in AI mode prior to the fourth quarter. The company informed AdAge that they have already begun showcasing more ads in AI mode and have experienced “remarkable results.” In May 2025, Google revealed it was trialing these ads, noting in a blog post, “Where applicable, ads may appear below and integrated into AI Mode responses.”
Google’s advertising revenue was estimated to hit $96.5 billion in the fourth quarter of the previous year. Until now, ads have been infrequent in AI chatbots like Google Gemini and ChatGPT. However, as Google shifts from conventional search towards AI search, the company’s extensive ad inventory may also evolve.
Google possesses a substantial advantage in AI search, boasting 30 times more traffic than its rivals. Its AI search outcomes eclipsed those of competitors such as ChatGPT, recording 16.5 billion visits in December 2024.
The integration of ads into Google’s AI search tools represents merely the start. Expenditure on AI-driven search advertising is predicted to approach nearly $29 billion by 2029, according to Reuters.
