Report Indicates Upcoming Meta VR Device Could Significantly Vary from Quest Headset

Over the last two years, the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S VR headsets have been released, yet it seems we will have to hold off for the next iteration, which could differ significantly. As reported by UploadVR, Meta’s forthcoming VR device is projected to launch in 2026 and may not follow the conventional bulky design of prior Quest models. Instead, it is anticipated to be a lighter, more open headset featuring a tethered puck for processing, akin to the Apple Vision Pro, though with key distinctions.

A previous report from The Information disclosed specifics about this new Meta device, codenamed “Puffin.” It takes the form of large glasses instead of a headset and weighs less than 100g, making it notably lighter than the 600g Vision Pro. Puffin is also expected to eliminate controllers, opting for hand gestures for navigation, which might restrict its gaming potential. Nevertheless, this does not eliminate the chance of another classic Quest headset emerging in the future.

It seems VR companies are beginning to understand that most individuals are not enthusiastic about wearing heavy computers on their faces. With Zuckerberg highlighting AR glasses as the next technological advancement, it is not surprising that Meta is shifting toward more glasses-like devices.
