Cultivate a Garden. 99 Evenings in the Woods. Snatch a Brainrot.
If you’re a guardian, chances are you’ve heard your children mention one of these Roblox titles. They are engaged in Roblox. Their peers are engaged in Roblox. Half of all youngsters under 16 in the U.S. are engaging with Roblox.
Sadly, with a multitude of children logged into Roblox, predators are taking advantage of the platform. As a result, Roblox has faced numerous lawsuits regarding its purported inability to ensure children’s safety on the platform.
So, is Roblox a secure environment for your children? If your child is already immersed in Roblox, what actions should you take?
As a dad of three young children, two of whom frequently engage with Roblox and one who will probably start once she figures out how to hold a tablet, I’ve compiled this guide to assist other guardians in navigating Roblox and securing their children’s safety while they play.
What is Roblox, and is it suitable for my kids?
Roblox is an online gaming platform where your character can traverse a virtual universe and interact with other Roblox avatars. The Roblox realm is whimsical, with characters that resemble LEGO figures.
Roblox functions more as a gaming platform than a singular game. Users design their own games within the virtual landscape, which can be played by other gamers. Roblox even boasts its own economy, with some creators earning considerable income if their game gains popularity. There is an in-game virtual currency named Robux, utilized to access exclusive features and items.
Due to its nature, Roblox has received an official ESRB classification of T for Teen. However, this is due to certain games that justify that rating. If your child mentions they are playing Roblox, it doesn’t convey much information. It’s akin to stating they are playing video games. You must ascertain which specific games they are engaging with on Roblox to assess suitability.
Ultimately, the decision on whether your children engage with it lies with you. I have chosen to allow my children to participate, much like how I let them view their preferred children’s programs on Netflix. While numerous adult films are available, with proper parental controls and supervision, you can discover suitable content for your children.
Initiating your Roblox Experience
So, you’ve concluded that your child can participate in Roblox. Now, you will find that Roblox offers various parental controls designed to safeguard children. Nonetheless, parents must configure these settings.
First things first: Establishing your Roblox accounts.
That’s right, I mentioned “accounts” as in multiple. Your child will have one account, and you will have yours as well. Set up your accounts, and then from your child’s account, go to Settings> Parental Controls> Add a parent. Enter the email for your account, then accept the link account request in your inbox. You’ll need to confirm your age and identity to prove you are a parent.
