On Friday, Roblox revealed the introduction of a new social video application and fresh AI tools for creators. These updates were disclosed during the Roblox Developers Conference. Roblox gaming videos frequently attain viral status on platforms such as TikTok and Reels, but there, they vie with other types of content. Introducing Roblox Moments, a short-form video feed reminiscent of TikTok, designed for players to share their in-game experiences. However, Roblox’s new social functionalities might undergo examination due to recent lawsuits concerning child safety.
Roblox Moments is set to debut in beta for users aged 13 and above, enabling them to browse through popular gameplay highlights, clip and refine their own moments up to 30 seconds long, and share them. Roblox is eager to capture some of the excitement, as content related to Roblox has amassed over 1 trillion views on YouTube. Users can incorporate music and textual descriptions into their videos, and the platform will permit the sharing of Roblox games. APIs will be made available for third-party developers to create new methods for capturing and exploring moments.
Additionally, new AI tools for creators were unveiled. Creators can input prompts for specific vehicles or weapons, and Roblox’s AI will produce interactive objects. A real-time AI-driven voice chat translation feature will facilitate easier interactions among users speaking English, Spanish, French, and German. Other AI-enhanced tools comprise text-to-speech and speech-to-text APIs, which allow for voice narration and character dialogues with various voice presets, as well as vocal command control for characters.
