Fans of *RuPaul’s Drag Race* are voicing concerns regarding the show’s supposed use of AI-generated visuals. In Season 18, episode 14, host RuPaul Charles “creates” portraits of competitors Juicy Love Dion, Myki Meeks, Darlene Mitchell, and Nini Coco. Audiences observed that the portraits exhibited AI-like characteristics, such as a yellow tint and peculiar details like Juicy Love Dion’s three-ended boa.
On various social media platforms, fans and past contestants, such as Season 16’s Plasma, shared their discontent over the possible incorporation of AI. *RuPaul’s Drag Race* is acclaimed for honoring the craft of drag, and utilizing AI appears to undermine the authenticity the series champions.
This isn’t the first instance of AI-related issues for *RuPaul’s Drag Race*. Previously, the show debuted a YouTube short film named “Jinkx & Plasma’s Gay Adventure!” which included AI interpretations of legendary scenes, attracting considerable criticism and was subsequently set to private. Mashable has reached out to the show’s production company, World of Wonder, for a response.
