Samsung’s Ballie Robot Is Finally Making Its Way Into Homes
Samsung’s eagerly awaited home robot, Ballie, is officially set to reach consumers after five years of development.
Initially unveiled in 2020, Ballie made another appearance at CES 2024 with an updated design. Now, Samsung has confirmed that the ball-shaped robot—referred to as a “home AI companion”—will soon be up for sale.
Ballie is engineered to navigate your home independently and engage with you through natural, conversational dialogue. It can assist with daily tasks like setting reminders, greeting guests at the entrance, and even providing compliments—or style advice. With both audio and visual sensors, Ballie can perceive and hear its environment, although Samsung has not disclosed many technical specifications yet.
What we do know is that Ballie’s intelligence will be powered by Google Gemini, the same AI platform integrated into Samsung’s latest Galaxy S24 smartphones. This means Ballie will offer contextual replies. For example, if you express, “I feel tired today,” it might recommend strategies to enhance your energy or improve your sleeping conditions.
Samsung has launched a promotional page for Ballie, which includes several teaser videos. One clip displays the robot projecting an interactive video onto a wall, indicating it might come equipped with a built-in projector. However, Samsung emphasizes that the video is only for demonstration purposes, and the actual product may vary in functionality.
Ballie is anticipated to launch in the U.S. and South Korea sometime this summer. Pricing has not yet been revealed, but interested consumers can pre-register on Samsung’s website to be among the first to acquire the device once it becomes available.
