Jeremy Allen White transitions from The Bear’s kitchen to a recording studio in the forthcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.
Written and directed by Scott Cooper, and adapted from Warren Zanes’ book Deliver Me From Nowhere, the film is a continuation of the longstanding tradition of musical biopics. Last year, Timothée Chalamet garnered praise (and an Oscar nomination) for his role as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, while Better Man’s CGI chimp interpretation of Robbie Williams provided a novel perspective on the genre. Additionally, Sam Mendes’ four upcoming Beatles biopics, featuring internet sensations Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Barry Keoghan, and Joseph Quinn, are also significant.
Now, the spotlight turns to White in the biopic realm. The Emmy and Golden Globe recipient portrays Bruce Springsteen during a pivotal moment in his life: the recording of his 1982 Nebraska album, just prior to his global ascent. Springsteen recorded it using a four-track cassette recorder in his New Jersey bedroom, and as per Deliver Me From Nowhere’s initial trailer, the album enabled him to confront his history, including his relationship with his parents (Gaby Hoffman and Adolescence’s Stephen Graham).
Watch the complete trailer above to listen to White performing tracks from Springsteen’s Nebraska, along with a moving rendition of Springsteen’s classic, “Born to Run.” What do you think, does The Bear make a fitting Boss?
Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere also stars Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Odessa Young, Marc Maron, and David Krumholtz.
Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere premieres in theaters on Oct. 24.
