Seth Meyers Comes Back with A Closer Look at Two Turbulent Weeks in Politics

Seth Meyers, similar to numerous late-night show presenters, made his comeback from vacation on Monday night, eager to plunge back into the frenzied news cycle. The last two weeks have been filled with upheaval, featuring events such as Elon Musk’s Grok AI making antisemitic remarks and President Donald Trump encountering criticism on Truth Social for his comments regarding Jeffrey Epstein. On “Late Night,” Meyers tackled these happenings.

“If you believed we’d come back from our break with uplifting news, you clearly haven’t been tuning into this show,” Meyers joked. “If things deteriorate further, we’ll have to present ‘A Closer Look’ in black and white and give it a French title.”

Meyers summarized the occurrences that took place while the program was off-air, emphasizing several significant matters.

“In the past fortnight, Republicans pushed a detrimental plan to strip millions of health insurance in order to finance tax breaks for millionaires, even while admitting the shortcomings of the legislation. The White House and Kristi Noem faced backlash for their handling of the Texas floods. Trump declared new tariffs that even his administration had difficulty defending. Musk’s AI chatbot went on an antisemitic tirade, referring to itself as ‘MechaHitler.’ Florida inaugurated a grim new detention facility for migrants, with a moniker that sounds horrific.”

Meyers then redirected his attention to Trump’s persistent media critique and his Truth Social comment urging individuals to move past Epstein, echoing sentiments shared by “The Daily Show’s” Ronny Chieng.

“How could you concentrate on older stories, something Trump has never done?” Meyers remarked. “He’s focused on present issues, not the 2020 election, the Russia investigation, Hunter Biden’s laptop, Hillary Clinton’s emails, Joe Biden’s autopen, Rosie O’Donnell’s humor, his ‘Apprentice’ ratings, or Arnold Palmer’s allegedly unusual anatomy, of which we still lack evidence.”
