Taron Egerton, famous for his performances in action movies such as *Kingsman: The Secret Service* and the upcoming 2024 thriller *Carry-On*, is poised to lead the crime thriller *She Rides Shotgun*. Helmed by Nick Rowland, a BAFTA nominee for *Calm with Horses*, and adapted from Jordan Harper’s book, the film portrays Egerton as Nate, a recently freed inmate pursued by adversaries who threaten him and his family, including his estranged 11-year-old daughter, Polly (Ana Sophia Heger).
Nate must safeguard Polly as they flee from a corrupt sheriff and dangerous gang members. Throughout their flight, Nate imparts survival skills to Polly, while she seeks to forge a connection with the father she never knew. The film’s dynamics are reminiscent of *The Last of Us*, but without the zombies.
The trailer highlights the film’s high-octane action, featuring Egerton and Heger in car chases, shootouts, and a knife duel. Although Nate firmly tells Polly never to handle a gun, their perilous journey compels her to grow up quickly and confront violence.
*She Rides Shotgun* also features Rob Yang and John Carroll Lynch and is slated for a limited theatrical release on Aug. 1.
