Saturday Night Live began this week’s episode by immediately addressing one of the most significant topics in the news: President Donald Trump’s tariffs, which have caused the stock market to plummet.
The cold open showcased cast member James Austin Johnson reviving his celebrated impersonation of Trump to present the tumultuous economic update.
“It’s actually better than just a plan because it’s a collection of arbitrary numbers,” Johnson’s Trump joked. “Like the digits on the computer display in Severance. You have no clue what they signify.”
Without giving away too many details, the sketch also features a surprising cameo by Mike Myers as Elon Musk. The show boldly takes jabs at current news stories, including reports of an escalating divide between Trump and Musk, who is seen as his supposed confidant.
