‘SNL’ Mocks Trump Administration’s Communication Blunder in Group Chat Cold Open

In a moment that seems more like a parody than actual life — because it nearly is — Saturday Night Live took a humorous jab at the Trump administration’s recent digital blunder: inadvertently including The Atlantic’s Editor-in-Chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, in a confidential Signal group chat meant for sensitive war strategy. Dubbed “Signalgate,” this mistake swiftly transformed into a viral joke and received the full SNL spoof treatment during this weekend’s Cold Open.

The sketch begins with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth (portrayed by Andrew Dismukes) unintentionally inviting three high school girls into the classified chat. Enter host Mikey Madison, along with cast members Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman, who desperately attempt to clarify to Hegseth — and later to Senators Marco Rubio and JD Vance — that they definitely should not be getting updates on covert FBI operations or elaborate schemes to pilfer the pyramids of Giza.

Throughout four hilariously chaotic minutes, the teens urge to be taken out of the group while the clueless officials continue to divulge national secrets as if they were conversing in a teenage conspiracy theory Discord server. And indeed — Goldberg stays in the chat the whole time.
