SNL Weekend Update Ridicules New Pope and Trump’s Alcatraz Suggestion

Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment offered another dose of sharp wit this week, with co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che launching a flurry of jokes that intertwine satire and reality.

This week’s jokes targeted the newly appointed American Pope, Leo XIV. Jost humorously suggested that the pontiff hails from Chicago’s South Side, quipping, “His hands are always up.”

Michael Che also joined in the fun, taking a shot at President Joe Biden’s recent visit on The View. Che joked that Biden remarked Kamala Harris didn’t win the 2024 election because “the only thing that surprises Biden are the words that come out of his own mouth.”

However, the highlight of the night belonged to cast member Mikey Day, who portrayed the “Guy who just walked into a spiderweb” while trying to explain tariffs. Predictably, he didn’t actually clarify tariffs—but he certainly kept the audience in stitches.
