Sony Launches Ghost of Tsushima Anime Series

If you’ve dedicated numerous hours honing your samurai abilities and writing haikus as Jin Sakai in *Ghost of Tsushima*, here’s some thrilling news to ponder: Sony has officially revealed that Sucker Punch’s lauded 2020 action-adventure title is being transformed into an anime series.

Unveiled at CES 2025 by Asad Qizilbash, the leader of PlayStation Productions, the anime version of *Ghost of Tsushima* is expected to debut on Sony’s streaming service, Crunchyroll, in 2027.

### *Ghost of Tsushima: Legends* Takes the Center Stage

The upcoming series, named *Ghost of Tsushima: Legends*, will not follow the narrative of Jin Sakai from the original game. Instead, it will take cues from the *Legends* multiplayer co-op mode featured within the game. Specifics regarding the storyline remain undisclosed for the time being.

Game enthusiasts may remember encountering Gyozen, the Legends Storyteller, scattered throughout the Mongol-occupied terrain of feudal Japan. These narratives enabled players to embody the roles of Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin, adding a more mystical aspect to the game. Unlike the principal storyline, *Legends* embraced fantastical themes from Japanese folklore, incorporating supernatural beings, monsters, and the undead.

### A First for PlayStation Studios

As reported by IGN, *Ghost of Tsushima: Legends* will be the very first anime adaptation of a PlayStation Studios title. The series will be directed by Takanobu Mizuno, with Gen Urobuchi crafting the script. Animation duties will be managed by Kamikaze Douga, in collaboration with Aniplex, the studio known for the popular anime *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba*.

### Sony’s Growing Adaptation Portfolio

*Ghost of Tsushima: Legends* is merely one of several adaptations that Sony revealed at CES 2025. Additional projects include film adaptations of *Horizon Zero Dawn* and *Helldivers 2*, along with updates on the eagerly awaited second season of HBO’s *The Last of Us*.
