Spotify Eliminates Its ICE Recruitment Advertisements

Spotify has allegedly eliminated ICE recruitment advertisements from its platform following months of criticism and boycotts. The company verified to Variety that it has retracted advertisements urging Americans to enlist in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as deportation agents. This move comes after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. A Spotify representative remarked, “There are currently no ICE ads running on Spotify,” adding that the ads were part of a U.S. government recruitment initiative across major media outlets. Mashable has reached out to Spotify for additional comments. Since October 2025, numerous Spotify users have protested against the app due to these advertisements and CEO Daniel Ek’s investment in the military AI defense firm Helsing. Spotify was among various tech platforms, such as Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and Facebook, that allegedly received financial incentives to display ICE ads as part of the agency’s $100 million marketing recruitment plan. Variety indicates that Spotify’s ICE ads, aired between songs for users on the ad-supported free tier, offered signing bonuses of $50,000.
