Stephen Colbert Addresses Upcoming TikTok Agreement

The sale of TikTok, a platform owned by China, in the U.S. is approaching its conclusion this week. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent employed a term to characterize the arrangement that Stephen Colbert, the host of The Late Show, found striking.

“We finalized a deal on TikTok,” Bessent announced on CBS’ Face the Nation, referencing a forthcoming meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. “We reached one in Madrid, and I think that as of today, all specifics are settled, and it will be up to the two leaders to finalize that transaction on Thursday in Korea.”

In fact, the term “finalize” was mentioned.

Colbert reacted on The Late Show: “The two leaders will start with verbal agreements before truly hammering out the specifics until they both exclaim ‘yes, yes, yes’ and then turn over and check their phones while experiencing a void similar to homesickness.”
