The AI boom may be reshaping the meme landscape, yet it is also sparking increasing worries regarding employment stability. A recent article from The New York Times discloses that Amazon plans to significantly incorporate robots into its labor force.
“We have just discovered that Amazon aims to substitute over half a million positions with robots,” Stephen Colbert states in the above clip from The Late Show. “This revelation about Amazon’s strategy stems from a collection of internal strategy documents accessed by The New York Times. Wow, that’s the type of exclusive story you used to find at The Washington Post, if only Bezos hadn’t modified their motto from ‘Democracy Dies in Darkness’ to ‘20% Off Next-Day Delivery of Six-Pack Men’s Ankle Socks.’ [Amazon proprietor Jeff Bezos has owned The Washington Post since 2013.]
“Per the documents, to alleviate employee apprehensions, Amazon is shunning terms such as ‘automation’ and will instead adopt phrases like ‘advanced technology,'” Colbert added. “And to imply that the AI workforce will work alongside humans, they will swap the term ‘robot’ for ‘cobot’. And instead of labeling all that ‘bulls**t’, I will refer to it as ‘advanced livestock butt derivative.'”
