Stephen Colbert has responded to the announcement that the U.S. government has granted approval for Paramount’s $8.6 billion merger with Skydance Media, a transaction thought to contribute to the recent cancellation of the Late Show. With little remaining to protect, the Late Show host took the opportunity to poke fun at his soon-to-be former employer.
“I’m ecstatic for everyone at Paramount that the merger has been finalized and very eager about our newly revealed official combined Paramount-SkyDance stock ticker, which will transition from ‘PARA’ to ‘PSKY,'” jested Colbert. “Before long, PSKY will shoot hot streaming content directly at you with popular titles like Yellowstone, Yellowjackets, and the whole range of water sports. I foresee PSKY becoming synonymous with number one. PSKY: a vessel of warm entertainment.”
Colbert also mentioned President Donald Trump taking to social platforms to belittle other networks as well. The U.S. president has heralded the Late Show’s cancellation as a triumph, reveling in the choice and wishing for other late-night hosts to experience a similar outcome.
“First it was CBS, now he’s targeting ABC and NBC,” remarked Colbert. “To which I respond: Come on in, Jimmy [Fallon] and Jimmy [Kimmel]. The water’s warm — because of all the PSKYs.”
