Stephen Colbert Reacts to Paramount’s Challenge to Netflix for Warner Bros.

Paramount is striving to outbid Netflix’s proposal to acquire Warner Bros., and Stephen Colbert — who is linked to CBS, owned by Paramount, and whose show is set to wrap up next April following its contentious cancellation — has weighed in on the significant figures being discussed.

“On Friday we found out that Netflix made a bid to take over Warner Brothers for $82.7 billion,” the Late Show host states in the clip above. “That’s a hefty sum. You know what that implies? Someone, somewhere, must be funding their own Netflix subscription. But just yesterday morning, my cherished parent company, Paramount, allegedly initiated a hostile takeover offer for Warner Brothers estimated at $108 billion. Incredible. I have to say, if my company has that much cash, I’m certain they can afford to reverse the cancellation of one of their top shows.”

The comment from the Late Show prompts cheers and an escalating chant of “Stephen, Stephen!”

“CBS, you heard the audience!” Colbert exclaims. “Restore The Equalizer!”
