On Wednesday evening, NASA’s Artemis II mission took flight with four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft, marking the first crewed lunar mission since 1972, and Stephen Colbert shares the excitement with everyone.
In the above clip, the host describes this mission as the starting point in a sequence of proposed missions over the upcoming years, leading up to the Artemis IV moon landing in 2028.
“Ooh, I enjoy a great franchise,” Colbert remarks. “Following Artemis IV, we can expect Artemis V: The Way of Water, Artemis VI: Money Never Sleeps, and Austin Powers 3: The Artemis Who Shagged Me.”
Colbert goes on to elaborate on the mission, detailing the anticipated path around the moon and the four astronauts aboard the vessel.
“Hold on a second, that doesn’t seem correct,” Colbert states. “I don’t spot Katy Perry in there. Is it truly a space mission if Jeff Bezos hasn’t encased a frightened Gayle King in a metal tube?”
