Vice President JD Vance has stood by a racist AI-generated video shared by President Donald Trump on social media, claiming that he finds the humorous portrayal of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries in a sombrero to be a comical jest. In response, Stephen Colbert has made his own playful offer, presenting a corresponding “joking” video.
When questioned about the video on Wednesday, Vance remarked, “I’ll tell Hakeem Jeffries right now: I make this serious assurance to you that if you assist us in reopening the government, the sombrero memes will cease.”
“If that’s the approach we’re taking, JD, then we here at the Late Show also appreciate humor,” Colbert stated. “We’ve crafted our own amusing animated segment based on something that isn’t real to help put an end to the shutdown. Enjoy!”
The Late Show host then went on to display an animation of Vance engaging in intimate acts with a couch while donning a sombrero on his backside. A viral rumor suggested that Vance confessed to self-pleasuring between two couch cushions in his memoir Hillbilly Elegy; however, the book does not include any such confession. Regardless, Vance’s alleged attraction to furniture has turned into a widespread joke online.
“We’re joking!” Colbert asserted. “I’ll make you this offer. If you step down as VP, I won’t keep airing that every opportunity I get. And I certainly won’t post it on all of our social media so that people can share it and perhaps play it on a loop during their holiday gatherings this year.”
