Stephen Colbert has taken a swipe at President Donald Trump, focusing on his ratings. Trump hosted the Kennedy Center Honors for the first time last month, confidently anticipating record-breaking viewership. However, as Colbert noted, the actual outcome was quite different. The event attracted merely 3 million viewers on CBS, setting an all-time low.
“Now, it is beneath me to gloat. But if it weren’t beneath me, I’d refer to him as no talent, low-rated Donald Trump,” Colbert quipped, mimicking Trump’s typical phrasing.
Colbert contrasted Trump’s ratings with his own when he hosted the Kennedy Center Honors in 2015. The Late Show host had more than three times the audience, with around 9.25 million viewers tuning in.
“Trump’s dismal numbers sting even more when you recall that he predicted it would be ‘the highest rated show they’ve ever done,'” Colbert remarked. “Well, that’s about as far off as a prediction could possibly be. Next to Amelia Earhart’s famous words, ‘One thing’s for sure, I ain’t getting lost.'”
