If your Christmas present this year involves binge-watching Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 2 the moment it drops, you’re fortunate. Netflix has released a trailer for the upcoming three episodes, providing a pre-Christmas delight to savor and ponder over for the next 10 days.
The trailer picks up following Vecna’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) assault on the Hawkins MAC-Z. Although Will (Noah Schnapp) harnesses his sorcerer abilities against a Demogorgon army to protect his friends, the Hawkins crew was unable to save the children Vecna planned to capture. They are now ensnared in Vecna’s lair, their minds trapped in his mindscape alongside Max (Sadie Sink) and Holly (Nell Fisher).
This obstacle is disheartening for everyone involved. But will the Hawkins group back down? Absolutely not! Along with Will’s newfound powers, they also have Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) sister Kali (Linnea Berthelsen) joining their cause. Moreover, the trailer indicates that Max and Holly will strive for a bold getaway from the Camazotz-like prison of Vecna’s thoughts. With an escape on the horizon, perhaps there’s hope. Is there?
Well, you can always count on the Duffer Brothers to throw in a twist. For example, the enormous sphere of swirling crimson energy that Steve (Joe Keery) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) encounter in the Upside Down. What fresh terror awaits us? The trailer also alludes to a necessary mending of fences between Steve and Dustin. They have been in conflict since the season commenced, burdened by Eddie’s (Joseph Quinn) death. Nonetheless, this reconciliation revives one of the most memorable exchanges between Steve and Dustin from the series: Season 3’s, “I die, you die.”
I get where they’re coming from, as they are likely on the verge of a perilous venture. But how about we suggest that neither of you meets your end? Sounds good? Excellent, glad we’re united on this.
Volume 1 of Stranger Things Season 5 is currently available for streaming on Netflix. Volume 2 debuts on Dec. 25, and the series finale airs on Dec. 31, both at 8 p.m. ET.
