What about another horror legacy sequel to finish off the summer? The hook-wielding psychopath from the popular ’90s slasher flick returns to haunt a fresh set of attractive young friends harboring a dark secret. The new I Know What You Did Last Summer isn’t merely a reboot — it’s a sequel featuring some familiar faces. The iconic Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt return to tap into our shared passion for ’90s nostalgia and slasher movies.
I Know What You Did Last Summer additionally features Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, and Austin Nichols.
The sequel slash reboot was released in theaters in July and became available for home viewing starting Aug. 26 via digital on demand. Now it’s finally streaming — just in time for the spooky season. Here’s everything you need to know to watch — including how to watch for less.
What is I Know What You Did Last Summer about?
Part reboot, part sequel, I Know What You Did Last Summer takes cues from the 1997 original’s core story. In the fishing town of Southport, North Carolina, a group of teenagers accidentally takes someone’s life and tries to cover it up. They believe they’ve escaped justice until a mysterious, hooded figure wielding a fishhook begins to stalk them. This time, though, the guilty teenagers reach out to survivors from the initial film — Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray (Freddie Prinze Jr.) — for assistance.

Is I Know What You Did Last Summer worth watching?
The slasher legacy sequel garnered about $65 million at the worldwide box office. While it has undoubtedly performed well against a reported budget of $17 million, it has had a harder time connecting with audiences compared to other legacy sequels like 28 Years Later and Final Destination: Bloodlines. The reviews are mostly average, currently holding a 36 percent critic rating and 68 percent audience rating at Rotten Tomatoes. To be fair, the original film also received fairly low scores.
For what it’s worth, Mashable’s reviewer had mainly positive feedback regarding I Know What You Did Last Summer. In his review, Jason Adams praised, “Here, Robinson’s film embraces the thrill of horror legacy, leveraging the strengths of the ’90s original while throwing surprises at a new audience. It’s all a learning experience: When life stabs you, you strike a pose in your designer jeans and vintage rock tee and stab it right back, baby.”
