Super Mario Galaxy Film Title Unveiling Suggests Cosmic Journey

The sequel to 2023’s hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, now has an official name: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

The name was revealed during Friday’s Nintendo Direct, where it was announced that the film is slated for release on April 3, 2026.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie borrows its title from 2007’s Super Mario Galaxy, the first Super Mario title on the Wii. The game, which was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, follows Mario’s journey through space to save Princess Peach from Bowser. During this adventure, he encounters the powerful Rosalina and the star-like Lumas under her care. The character Lumalee from Super Mario Galaxy made a notable appearance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The title reveal suggests Mario’s adventure in space. It opens with a tranquil scene featuring Monty Moles and Cheep Cheeps before flying past Princess Peach’s castle, through clouds, and into the cosmos, where a Luma joyfully shouts, “Let’s-a go!”

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will bring back the star-studded voice cast from The Super Mario Bros. Movie, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. More announcements regarding additional characters and voice actors will follow. Who will lend their voice to Rosalina? What other characters will be featured in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie? And will the sequel produce a catchy hit like Bowser’s “Peaches”?

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is scheduled to debut in theaters on April 3, 2026.
