Nintendo revealed on Wednesday that it has shifted more than 3.5 million Switch 2 consoles globally in merely four days. Following the eagerly awaited midnight debut on June 5, Nintendo declared this achievement as “the highest worldwide sales figure for any Nintendo hardware within the initial four days.” In contrast, the original Switch, which debuted in 2017, managed to sell 2.74 million units in its first month.
Originally, Nintendo anticipated sales of approximately 15 million Switch 2 consoles by March 2026, but has now revised this estimate to 20 million units.
The release of Nintendo’s inaugural handheld console in eight years witnessed gamers and tech aficionados lining up for hours outside retailers such as Target, Best Buy, and Walmart to pick up their preorders. However, some customers have reported discovering that their screens were damaged within the packaging.
At this point, customers are opting to purchase the Switch 2 online or gamble on finding it in-store. The Switch 2 console is priced at $449.99, and adding Nintendo’s latest Mario Kart World elevates the total to $499.99.
Mashable’s Alex Perry has offered a review of the Nintendo Switch 2 along with a comparison of the original Switch model and the new version.
