Hideo Kojima has once again left enthusiasts pondering, *”What did I just witness?”*
The renowned game director stepped onto the stage at SXSW to present an all-new glimpse of his eagerly awaited sequel, *Death Stranding 2: On the Beach*. Joining him for the discussion were returning star Norman Reedus (Sam Porter Bridges), Troy Baker, and French music director/designer Woodkid. The nearly 10-minute trailer, showcased to an enthusiastic audience at the Austin Convention Center, is quintessential Kojima—breathtaking graphics, unsettling creatures, and a generous serving of beautifully strange chaos.
It’s peculiar. It’s awe-inspiring. And honestly, we wouldn’t want it any other way.
Along with new gameplay footage, Kojima finally disclosed the game’s release date: June 26. *Death Stranding 2* continues the narrative of Sam Porter Bridges as he and his companions contend with the ramifications of their mission. The game’s tagline, *”Should we have connected?”*, seems to reflect on the original installment’s theme of uniting a divided America—only now, the sequel appears to question if that endeavor was genuinely worthwhile.
This new chapter brings forth a fresh adventure, an expanded cast, and an entirely new environment. While a previous trailer introduced Troy Baker’s mysterious, crow-inspired villain, this latest footage unveils Luca Marinelli’s character, Neil, the leader of a secretive new faction. Notably, his headband presents strong *Metal Gear*’s Solid Snake vibes—perhaps a subtle homage to Kojima’s earlier works.
It’s an exhilarating time for Kojima Productions, as the studio not only gears up for *Death Stranding 2* but also announces a worldwide concert tour, *Strands of Harmony*, and a complete film adaptation in partnership with the acclaimed A24.
Fans can pre-order *Death Stranding 2: On the Beach* beginning March 17, 2025.
