Tesla has announced a recall for almost 700,000 vehicles this week due to a defect in the tire pressure warning system. This problem may cause drivers to inadvertently operate their vehicles with tires that are under-inflated, which could create potential safety hazards.
As per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warning indicator “might not stay lit between drive cycles, neglecting to notify the driver of low tire pressure.”
The recall affects certain models, including the 2024 Cybertrucks, 2017-2025 Model 3s, and 2020-2025 Model Ys. However, there’s good news for Tesla owners, as the company has already deployed a complimentary over-the-air software update to fix the issue. Furthermore, Tesla intends to send notification letters to the impacted owners beginning February 15.
A report from *Reuters*, citing information from recall management company BizzyCar, disclosed that Tesla accounted for 21% of all vehicle recalls in the U.S. during the initial three quarters of 2024. Nevertheless, most of these concerns were addressed through software updates instead of physical repairs.
The Cybertruck, specifically, has encountered several noteworthy recalls throughout the year, highlighting persistent issues with the new model.
