Tesla Halts Order Intake for Model S and X in Europe

Tesla has stopped taking orders for its Model S and Model X premium electric vehicles in Europe. This adjustment was subtly rolled out across the region; we’ve examined multiple Tesla European websites, including those for Italy, Germany, France, Spain, and Croatia, and they exclusively feature inventory of Model X and Model S vehicles. Conversely, Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y vehicles are still accessible for configuration and ordering in these locations.

This does not imply the vehicles are completely absent in Europe; purchasers can still choose from a selection of preconfigured Model S and Model X vehicles (we identified several available options in every market we examined).

The adjustment comes after a quarter in which Tesla delivered merely 10,394 of its “other” models, a category that encompasses the Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck — representing nearly a 50 percent decline compared to the same quarter last year.

The Model S and X have recently been slightly updated, with starting prices rising by $5,000 for each model.

However, this could be a temporary situation. As Electrek highlighted, this is not the first occurrence; for example, Tesla did not accept orders for Model S and X during the initial seven months of 2022, following a refresh of the two models the year prior.

The change may be attributed to supply challenges, as the wait time for the Model S is two months even in California, where the vehicle is manufactured. Yet, it could also suggest that the conclusion for Tesla’s luxury EVs is approaching — at least in certain markets.
