Texas AG Files Lawsuit Against Roblox for Putting Profits Before Safety with Pixel Predators

Roblox is confronted with yet another lawsuit concerning child safety issues. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton disclosed on social media that the state is pursuing legal action against Roblox for favoring “pixel pedophiles and profits over the well-being of Texas children.”

This represents the third lawsuit initiated by a U.S. state AG against Roblox in recent months. In August, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill took legal action against the platform for its “lack of safety protocols” that jeopardize children in Louisiana. In October, Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman filed a lawsuit highlighting comparable safety concerns, accusing Roblox of neglecting the crisis for financial gain.

The lawsuit from Texas asserts that Roblox has been “flagrantly disregarding federal and state online safety regulations while misleading parents about the hazards of its platform.” Attorney General Paxton remarked, “We cannot permit platforms like Roblox to persist as digital playgrounds for predators where the safety of our children is sacrificed for corporate profit.” He stressed the importance of Roblox enhancing protections for children against online predators.

Roblox is also contending with numerous lawsuits from Dolman Law Group representing parents and their children. The platform, favored by U.S. kids under 16, enables users to navigate a digital universe and engage in user-generated games. Although it has child safety settings and parental controls in place, these provisions have shown to be inadequate in preventing child exploitation.

With various state Attorney Generals initiating legal proceedings, Roblox may need to proactively tackle safety concerns or encounter governmental intervention akin to other Big Tech and social media companies.
