Texas Age-Verification Legislation Affirmed by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has confirmed Texas’s age-verification statute for adult websites with a 6-3 ruling, with Justices Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson dissenting. Approximately one-third of U.S. states have implemented comparable laws, which generally mandate that sites with more than a third of explicit material verify the ages of visitors through methods such as facial recognition scans or government-issued identification. In January, SCOTUS examined the constitutionality of Texas’s law in the case Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton. This story is ongoing; further updates will be provided.
