Writer/director Paul Greengrass is celebrated for his work on several sequels of the Bourne Identity franchise, including The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, and Jason Bourne. The Oscar-nominated director is also revered for transforming true stories into captivating dramas, such as Bloody Sunday, Captain Phillips, and United 93. His newest endeavor, The Lost Bus, embodies this concept flawlessly.
In the wake of the L.A. fires that stirred the nation, The Lost Bus revisits the catastrophic 2018 Camp Fire, the most lethal wildfire in the last century. Academy Award-winner Matthew McConaughey plays a bus driver who heroically aids 23 schoolchildren caught in the chaos. Golden Globe Award-winner America Ferrera joins him as the teacher dedicated to maintaining her class’s composure during the rescue operation. It promises to deliver an exhilarating experience.
Greengrass is adept at creating tension, with even the trailer being intensely gripping. We are looking forward to this film.
Prior to its fall launch, The Lost Bus will premiere globally at the Toronto International Film Festival as a part of the Special Presentation lineup. Watch for Mashable’s TIFF updates when the festival kicks off on Sept. 4.
The Lost Bus is set to release in select theaters on Sept. 19, 2025, and will be available globally on Apple TV+ starting Oct. 3, 2025.
