A few weeks back, I finally managed to get a Nintendo Switch 2. I am absolutely enjoying it up until now, but until recently, I hadn’t been able to enjoy one of its main features: The capability to take the handheld device anywhere.
Of course, that’s not entirely accurate. I could’ve taken the console with me this whole time, but I personally couldn’t bring myself to. In other words, there’s no way I’d risk bringing my new Nintendo Switch into the world without a protective case. (In my view, every Switch ought to come with a case, but having us purchase everything separately is typical for Nintendo.)
The era of my Nintendo Switch 2 being a home device is behind me, though, because Belkin’s latest charging case is just what I needed to feel at ease traveling with my cherished console. I am always uncertain about third-party accessories — they can either be great or poor — but this one hits it out of the park.
To start, the case itself is visually appealing. The robust, hardshell outer layer is stylish and not cluttered with images and logos, which I tend to prefer more than an extravagant design. It is available in three distinct color selections — I chose the sand variant, but I find the charcoal and pistachio green options to be quite appealing as well. The real highlight, however, is what’s inside the case.
Upon opening it, you’ll discover an integrated rechargeable power bank positioned in the center, held securely by a small velcro strap. The Switch console fits perfectly over it and does not scratch against anything while placed inside the case. When you need some extra power, you can pull the provided USB-C cable out from under the handheld and start charging either while playing or while it’s resting in the case. It’s exceptionally handy, and being able to charge my Switch safely while I’m out means I can spend more time enjoying the console and less time waiting for it to charge. The battery even features a small LCD screen that indicates how much power remains, which has already prevented me from leaving my apartment with a dead power bank.
The case also offers a good amount of additional storage, featuring a mesh pocket that can accommodate cords, accessories, and more. I personally use mine to hold the battery cable, a charging block for plugging the power bank in, and my Joy-Con covers designed for the Switch’s mouse mode. Additionally, there’s a flap in front of the pocket that can store up to 12 Nintendo Switch game cards. While I currently possess only digital copies, I look forward to soon filling those card slots with new games.
Belkin’s case isn’t entirely groundbreaking — we’ve encountered charging cases before — but it is well-crafted, practical, and the best option you’ll find at the beginning of the Switch 2 era.
