Take a look at the unfiltered first trailer for The Bride! — which might be a tad NSFW.
It’s an exhilarating time for Frankenstein fans. Mary Shelley’s legendary 1818 novel has led to two forthcoming films: Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride!
This marks Gyllenhaal’s follow-up to The Lost Daughter, which garnered her an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and Jessie Buckley a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The writer/director and her lead actress come together again for The Bride!, which presents a true-crime twist on the Bride of Frankenstein narrative.
Set in 1930s Chicago, a lonely Frankenstein (Christian Bale) — the creature, not the physician — seeks out scientist Dr. Euphronius (Annette Bening) with a peculiar proposition. He requests her assistance in creating a companion. Together, they resurrect a slain young woman, and the Bride (Buckley) is brought to life. Cue the timeless line, “She’s alive!”
Indeed, the Bride is alive, and she’s not precisely what either Frankenstein or Dr. Euphronius anticipated.
The Bride and Frankenstein dive into a romance tinged with horror. But that’s not all! As per the film’s official synopsis, they spark “a full-tilt radical cultural movement.” They also find themselves as outlaws sought for murder, infusing a Bonnie and Clyde aspect into their story.
Watch the complete uncensored trailer above to catch a glimpse of the fantastical world Gyllenhaal is crafting, and to witness Buckley and Bale’s transformations into two of pop culture’s most legendary monsters.
The Bride! also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz.
The Bride! premieres in theaters March 6, 2026.
