The Daily Show Addresses Trump’s Comments on ICE Shooting

Late-night programs including *Jimmy Kimmel Live!*, *The Late Show with Stephen Colbert*, and *Late Night with Seth Meyers* have tackled the shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, alongside the Trump administration’s efforts to justify the actions of the ICE official.

Ronny Chieng from *The Daily Show* examined repeated assertions made by Donald Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem about the incident, ICE’s recruitment strategies, and the agency’s aggressive raids over the last year.

“If you think they should not enforce the law with such aggression, you’re right,” Chieng states. “They don’t need to act this fiercely. The violence and the display of violence is intentional. This is why simply analyzing these videos frame by frame doesn’t capture the full context of what occurred here.

“People keep asserting this ICE agent was afraid for his safety? Perhaps. However, we must also recognize that this woman likely felt threatened too, and rightly so,” Chieng added. “Moreover, advising someone to comply with law enforcement isn’t constructive when ICE has spent the past year behaving less like law enforcement and more like a rogue militia.

“Regrettably, we can continue to expect this to occur, not because ICE is engaging in perilous circumstances, but because they persist in entering safe environments and then escalating the situations unnecessarily.”
