The Daily Show Relentlessly Ridicules Trump’s 50-Year Mortgage Plan

In a post on Truth Social and during an interview with Fox News, Donald Trump has put forward the notion of a 50-year mortgage in the United States, proposing it as a way to enhance home affordability for Americans. Nevertheless, Daily Show host Josh Johnson expresses doubt.

In the Tuesday episode, the host displays a graphic illustrating that a six percent mortgage on a $400,000 residence would lead to around $300 less each month in repayments compared to a 30-year mortgage, but would accumulate over $800,000 in interest throughout the lifespan of the loan.

“So what you’re telling me is that after interest, a $400,000 mortgage is going to set me back $1.3 million?” Johnson comments. “That is exactly the opposite of being affordable. This individual is establishing generational debt. They will be struggling to escape grandma’s Will. Grandkids will say, ‘I hardly knew her, okay? I wouldn’t even embrace her at Christmas because her skin was too loose.'”
