The Digital Solution That Resurrected Notre-Dame in Unprecedented Speed

In the spring of 2019, a catastrophic blaze came close to obliterating Notre-Dame, one of the most famous symbols of Paris. In the wake of this disaster, French President Emmanuel Macron committed to revitalizing the cathedral and reinstating it for public access by 2024, aligning with Paris’s role as host for the Olympics. Although the restoration was not finalized in time for the Olympic Games, the cathedral triumphantly reopened in December 2024, fulfilling a demanding schedule.

At the heart of the restoration initiative was state-of-the-art software from the U.S. technology firm Autodesk. This innovative tool empowered the reconstruction team to produce a comprehensive digital map of Notre-Dame, which allowed them to carefully strategize each phase of the rebuilding endeavor.
