The Office Spinoff Brings Back a Cherished Character from Scranton

Exciting news for fans of The Office: Peacock has officially announced the title and premiere date for its eagerly awaited spin-off of the beloved workplace comedy. Prepare for The Paper, which is scheduled to debut this September.

The new show, brought to life by The Office showrunner Greg Daniels and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), relocates the action from Scranton, Pennsylvania to Toledo, Ohio. This time, the well-known documentary crew focuses their cameras on a struggling local newspaper. Faced with limited resources, the publication’s publisher—played by Domhnall Gleeson (About Time)—turns to untrained volunteers in a desperate effort to sustain the paper.

Peacock revealed the first image from the series during NBCUniversal’s upfront event on May 12. The snapshot features Gleeson standing atop a desk, attempting to motivate his unconventional newsroom staff. Moreover, for dedicated fans of The Office, there’s a delightful twist: Oscar Martinez (portrayed by Oscar Nuñez) is returning.

Nuñez, who attended the event with Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), shared a funny story about his character’s comeback. “After The Office wrapped up, I mentioned to Greg [Daniels] that I could envision Oscar moving to a larger city,” Nuñez stated. “Greg took note and relocated Oscar to Toledo, Ohio, which has three times Scranton’s population—so it’s great to be acknowledged.”

The Paper’s cast also features Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key.
