Since the establishment of the industry, mobile carriers have competed to deliver the largest and swiftest mobile networks. Annual data on the speeds of leading players has been accessible since the 3G generation. Testing persists as carriers upgrade their networks for quicker download speeds, especially with the looming competition from satellite internet providers such as Starlink.

So, which mobile network holds the title of the fastest in 2025?

Ookla, the organization known for the popular internet speed testing platform Speedtest, has published fresh statistics assessing network speeds for the first half of 2025. The latest Speedtest Connectivity Report provides fantastic news for T-Mobile users.

T-Mobile boasts the fastest mobile network

As per Ookla, T-Mobile’s speeds outshine those of its rivals. By evaluating download speeds, upload speeds, and other criteria, Ookla allocates a “speed score” to carriers. T-Mobile achieved a score of 74.45 through June 2025. Verizon came in second with 65.72, while AT&T scored 63.16. To summarize, the contest for the first half of 2025 was not particularly close, with T-Mobile undeniably standing out as the champion. Ookla also acknowledged T-Mobile as having the top overall mobile network and the best 5G network.

T-Mobile’s triumph was based on various metrics, particularly its reliability. T-Mobile was the fastest carrier across 46 states and Washington, D.C., while Verizon led in North Dakota. Ookla remarked that the results in the remaining four states were “too close to call.” AT&T did not emerge as the fastest in any U.S. state or territory.

T-Mobile also excelled in the majority of large U.S. cities, although AT&T took the lead in Chicago, and Verizon Wireless achieved the highest score in San Francisco.

T-Mobile secures consecutive wins

These findings are not unexpected. T-Mobile’s network speed has been at the forefront for several years across various testing methodologies. In 2021, PCMag evaluated all three major networks over 10,000 miles, concluding that T-Mobile was the quickest. T-Mobile has maintained the title of fastest mobile network since then, including in Ookla’s 2023 report and its 2024 report.
