**The Roses Teaser: Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman Confront a Tumultuous Separation**

If you’ve always envisioned a showdown featuring Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch exchanging sharp jabs—and even throwing fruit—your chance has come. Searchlight Pictures has released the inaugural trailer for The Roses, a darkly comedic film that plunges into a wildly fierce divorce.

Helmed by Jay Roach (Meet the Parents, Bombshell) and scripted by Tony McNamara (The Favourite, Poor Things), The Roses offers a contemporary take on the 1989 cult favorite The War of the Roses, which was adapted from Warren Adler’s novel. The original movie featured Kathleen Turner, Michael Douglas, and Danny DeVito, who also took on directing duties.

In this refreshed rendition, Colman and Cumberbatch take on the roles of Ivy and Theo Rose, a couple that appears flawless: she’s an acclaimed chef, he’s a prosperous architect, and together they’ve crafted an idyllic existence. However, when Theo’s profession hits a downturn just as Ivy’s ascends, their union starts to disintegrate—rapidly. What ensues is an unrelenting struggle over dignity, dominance, and assets, with their opulent home becoming the ultimate battleground.

The trailer hints at a wonderfully chaotic mix of witty banter (“You are a bottomless pit of need”) and intensifying physical altercations. A standout scene? Ivy wields a gun, only for Theo to counter with a perfectly aimed orange—surprisingly effective, as it turns out.

The film also features an impressive supporting ensemble, including Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Belinda Bromilow, Sunita Mani, Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, and Kate McKinnon.

The Roses hits theaters on August 29.
