### *Severance*’s “Woe’s Hollow” Presents an Impressive Episode with Distinct Challenges
The fourth installment of *Severance* Season 2, named “Woe’s Hollow,” truly shines—not just because of its surprising narrative twist but also for the distinct filming experience it offered the cast and crew.
In this episode, Innies Mark (Adam Scott), Helly (Britt Lower), Irving (John Turturro), and Dylan (Zach Cherry) venture beyond Lumon’s sterile Severed Floor for a company-organized Outdoor Retreat Team Building Event (ORTBO). Donning matching fur coats, they embark on a snowy trek through Dieter Eagan National Forest, presenting a vivid contrast to their regular office surroundings.
While the actors have previously depicted their Outie counterparts in the external world, shooting “Woe’s Hollow” was a completely different experience.
**A Demanding Five-Week Production**
“[The shoot] extended over five weeks,” Turturro recounted during a video chat with *Mashable*, along with co-stars Lower and Cherry. “It felt akin to producing an independent film.”
The remote mountainous setting posed considerable logistical challenges. “Just getting up there was time-consuming,” Turturro explained. “In the evenings, descending in these small tractors, surrounded by fog and snow, you’d think, ‘We might go right off that cliff!'”
Lower noted that the brisk filming schedule resulted in fewer opportunities for hair and makeup adjustments. “They would do our hair and makeup in the morning, and then we wouldn’t have any touch-ups during the day because there simply wasn’t time,” she said. “We had to be agile, racing against the sunset.”
Cherry proudly remarked, “We won the race! We outpaced the sun every day.”
**New Attire for a New Surrounding**
The wintry backdrop also necessitated a change in wardrobe for the Innies, who are typically seen in office clothing. “I thoroughly enjoyed not having to wear pantyhose and heels for the first time,” Lower confessed.
Costume designer Sarah Edwards equipped the characters in long fur coats, matching hats, and mountaineering boots with crampons to assist them in navigating the challenging terrain.
However, the bulkiness of the coats brought another level of difficulty. “Those coats weighed about 30 pounds,” Turturro disclosed. “It was fantastic, but really heavy. You’d be drenched by the end of the day.”
Despite the hurdles, Cherry discovered an unexpected upside. “By the conclusion of the shoot, I’d gained quite a bit of calf muscle,” he joked.
