Funeral customs take a grim and eerie twist in the teaser for The Surrender, an upcoming horror film set to debut on Shudder.

Crafted and helmed by Julia Max, the film showcases Colby Minifie (The Boys) and Kate Burton (Grey’s Anatomy) as Megan and Barbara, a mother and daughter facing their sorrow in a deeply unsettling manner. Following the passing of Megan’s father, Barbara embarks on an obsessive quest to gather his possessions and prepare for the arrival of an enigmatic group—implying that something far more nefarious than grieving is afoot.

The teaser hints at a plunge into the grotesque, featuring chilling imagery captured by cinematographer Cailin Yatsko, and suggests that a disturbing resurrection ceremony may lie at the core of the narrative.

The Surrender will start streaming on Shudder on May 23.
