TikTok Boosts Safety Measures with Parental Restrictions and Wellness Initiatives

TikTok is upgrading its health and safety features with new tools for parents, creators, and users. The app rolls out Footnotes, a community notes function, while enhancing monitoring and personalization options. Creators can now employ bulk Mute to block specific words from viewers during Live sessions and utilize Creator Care Mode to automatically filter out inappropriate comments. Parents are provided with additional options to oversee their teen’s app activity, and all users can access well-being tools that encourage healthier app usage.

**New Family Pairing tools**

In March, TikTok unveiled expanded supervision tools for parents, enabling them to view their child’s follower and following lists, manage screen time, and receive alerts when a video is reported. Now, parents can be notified when their child shares content that is visible to others. For teens aged 15 and above, parents can check whether followers can download, duet, or stitch their videos. New functionalities also enable parents to see how teens curate their FYPs and utilize “Manage Topics” to filter content. Parents can block accounts, a feature initially available to European users, with teens having the capability to request unblocking.

**Well-being features for users**

TikTok users aiming to improve their digital habits can take part in Well-being Missions, earning badges for completing daily activities related to digital well-being settings. The company focuses on empowering users to regulate their online time with tools like Screen Time Management and Sleep Hours, fostering long-term change through positive reinforcement. In May, TikTok introduced evening meditation reminders for teens, enhancing the existing screen time and scroll notifications.
