What is Connections?

The NYT‘s latest daily word challenge has taken social media by storm. The Times acknowledges associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu for playing a pivotal role in developing this fresh word game and incorporating it into the publication’s Games section. Connections can be enjoyed on web browsers and mobile devices, asking players to group four words that have a shared characteristic.

Every puzzle consists of 16 words, divided into four categories. These groups can encompass anything from book titles, software, names of countries, and more. Although several words may appear to connect, there is only one right solution.

If a player successfully groups all four words correctly in a set, those words are eliminated from the board. An incorrect guess is counted as a mistake—players are allowed a maximum of four mistakes before the game concludes.

Players can reorganize and shuffle the board to facilitate finding connections. Moreover, each group is color-coded, with yellow being the easiest, succeeded by green, blue, and purple. Much like Wordle, players can share their results with friends on social media.
