Another installment of Saturday Night Live introduced yet another Cold Open showcasing James Austin Johnson’s remarkable impression of Donald Trump.
The sketch commenced on a heartfelt tone, with cast members Kenan Thompson, Marcello Hernández, and Bowen Yang presenting an emotional Mother’s Day tribute — accompanied onstage by their actual mothers. However, the touching moment was short-lived.
Enter Johnson’s Trump, who swiftly undermined the sentimentality with a trademark quip: “Don’t worry, those aren’t even the real moms, those are actors. SNL wouldn’t cover the flights.”
What ensued was five minutes of Johnson in full Trump stand-up fashion, delivering a flurry of jokes and quirky commentary. The segment also included a surprise visit from former cast member Cecily Strong, reprising her role as FOX News host Jeanine Pirro — who was previously considered as Trump’s temporary pick for U.S. Attorney for D.C.
Colin Jost stepped into the scene as Pete Hegseth, and along with Strong’s Pirro, the sketch humorously highlighted their spirited relationship with alcohol. Trump dubbed the duo the “AA Team,” concluding a Cold Open that fused political satire with classic SNL absurdity.
