TikTok is still unbanned for the time being, as President Donald Trump has enacted an executive order pushing its deadline to September 17. Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, although the order has not yet been recorded in the Federal Register. This is the third time TikTok’s deadline has been extended. TikTok expressed its appreciation for Trump’s backing, underlining its significance to more than 170 million American users and 7.5 million U.S. businesses. The app will continue to be available in the U.S. until September 17, with three possible scenarios: another extension, a ban, or TikTok’s dissociation from ByteDance. The extension from Trump was expected, as White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had indicated it previously. In an interview from May, Trump stated he might postpone the ban again if an agreement isn’t reached. The president had earlier delayed the ban in January and April amidst U.S.-China trade disputes.
