United Launches Baggage Tracking with Apple AirTag Integration

In November, Apple unveiled a new feature named **Share Item Location**, aimed at assisting users in sharing real-time locations of misplaced or lost items with airlines.

As of today, December 12, United Airlines has declared its integration of this feature into its baggage tracking procedures.

The Share Item Location tool, which launched with **iOS 18.2**, is compatible with Apple devices, third-party accessories, and Apple AirTags. For instance, if you’ve attached an AirTag to your luggage and it becomes lost, you can access the **Find My** app on your iPhone, create a Share Item Location link, and forward it to the airline to expedite the recovery process.

### How it functions with United Airlines
Customers of United Airlines can now add the Share Item Location link in their delayed baggage reports through the United app. As stated by the airline, this feature enables customer service representatives to “locate delayed bags more swiftly and reunite them with owners.”

The shared location will automatically deactivate once the luggage is returned to its rightful owner. Moreover, customers have the option to manually cease sharing the location at any moment, and the tracking link will expire after a period of seven days.

### Prerequisites for utilizing the feature
To utilize this tool, customers need an **iPhone operating on iOS 18.2 or newer** and a compatible **Find My accessory**—like an AirTag, Chipolo One Spot, or other supported devices—placed within their luggage.

### Broader adoption among airlines
United Airlines joins a growing number of carriers implementing this feature. More than 15 airlines have revealed intentions to incorporate Find My item locations into their customer service offerings. These include Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Vueling. Additionally, Apple has stated that more airlines will be added to the program “in the upcoming months.”

This advancement represents a significant leap in aiding travelers in recovering lost luggage more effectively, utilizing Apple’s ecosystem to enhance the process.
