Valve Introduces New Steam Machine Console: Cost, Specifications, Launch Date

A few years following the successful growth of the handheld gaming sector with the Steam Deck, Valve is once again striving for a console-like experience.

Valve unveiled various new hardware offerings yesterday, including the Steam Machine. This marks Valve’s second endeavor into this concept (the first was nearly ten years ago), but the current timing appears more advantageous, particularly with the future of Xbox being rather ambiguous. The Steam Machine can be regarded as a console variant of the Steam Deck: It operates on the same software, SteamOS, and will allow you to play games from your Steam library while linked to a TV, similar to a console.

Regrettably, a price or release date is not yet disclosed. Stay tuned for further announcements.

The primary distinction between this and a Deck is that the Steam Machine will exhibit considerably greater power. According to Valve, it boasts six times the power of the Steam Deck. Here are the specifications provided by Valve for the Steam Machine:

– **CPU: Semi-custom AMD Zen 4 6C / 12T**
– **GPU: Semi-Custom AMD RDNA3 28CUs, 2.45GHz max sustained clock, 110W TDP**
– **16GB DDR5 + 8GB GDDR6 VRAM**
– **Two storage configurations: 512GB SSD and 2TB SSD**
– **2x USB-A ports at the front**
– **2x USB-A ports at the back**
– **1x USB-C port at the back**

Valve asserts that this device will deliver visuals and performance up to 4K at 60 frames per second. It’s unclear how it will fare against the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X regarding power, but it is expected to be in the same league, given those devices were launched five years ago. Additionally, it enjoys the benefit of accessing an extensive library of PC games that spans multiple decades.

While it may be a while before its launch, there are numerous reasons to be enthusiastic even now.
