On Thursday, October 16, both Venmo and PayPal saw a rise in user-reported problems on Down Detector, indicating possible issues with the payment platforms. (Note: Down Detector is a subsidiary of Ziff Davis, which also owns Mashable.) Since PayPal and Venmo are under the same parent company, concurrent issues are feasible. I checked Venmo on my mobile device at 12:25 p.m. ET, but numerous users continued to report challenges online.
Issues with the payment platforms began to be reported on Down Detector around 11 a.m. ET. PayPal’s status page indicated that all services, including Venmo, were functioning by 12:30 p.m., although it remained unclear if all user complaints had been addressed.
