Verizon Announces Network Recovery After Significant Service Disruption

Verizon has declared that its mobile network is operational again after an interruption hindered users from making calls for over 10 hours on Wednesday. You should now be able to use your phone normally, although restarting it might be necessary first.

“The issue has been fixed,” Verizon posted on X at 10:20 p.m. ET / 7:20 p.m. PT. “If customers continue to experience problems, we advise them to restart their devices to reconnect to the network. For those affected, we will offer account credits. More information will be communicated directly to customers. We genuinely apologize for the inconvenience.”

The Verizon outage started earlier on Wednesday at approximately 11:55 a.m. ET / 8:55 a.m. PT, when the crowdsourced outage monitor Downdetector began receiving numerous reports from users facing connectivity issues. The outage placed Verizon customers’ devices in SOS mode, blocking them from making calls or accessing mobile data. Regrettably, although calling 911 should have functioned normally, some Verizon users indicated that they could not reach emergency services during the outage, while officials advised individuals to utilize other networks for assistance.

Verizon has expressed regret for the short-term service disruption and pledged to credit affected users’ accounts as compensation. Nonetheless, no clarification has been provided regarding the reasons behind the Verizon outage. It is anticipated that additional details will emerge in the upcoming days. For the time being, dissatisfied customers are taking to social media to seek explanations, with some hinting at the possibility of changing carriers.
