The widely-liked YouTube speed-dating series *Pop the Balloon or Find Love* is transitioning into a dating application, as revealed by creators Arlette Amuli and her spouse, Bolia Matundu (referred to as BM). For those who are not acquainted with the series, which attracts between one and two million views for each episode, here’s the premise: singles queue up to be evaluated by fellow singles, with participants bursting the balloons of individuals they don’t feel a spark with. It’s frenetic, brutally candid, and downright uncomfortable, which is why it captivates its audience.
The announcement regarding the app was made prior to the airing of the show’s 78th episode last week on Amuli’s YouTube channel. BM revealed that the forthcoming app will include standard features such as chatting, connecting, and matching, with an additional twist: some participants from the show will be featured.
While a release date has yet to be disclosed, fans are able to sign up for a waitlist for priority access, which was announced during the episode. Mashable reached out to the creators for remarks but did not receive a reply before going to press.
The *Pop the Balloon* franchise has already broadened beyond YouTube. A Netflix adaptation launched in April with *Insecure*’s Yvonne Orji as the host, and an official UK spinoff is currently in development. The Netflix version showcased a more “diverse” cast, which displeased some long-time fans, as the original series has emerged as a prominent Black dating show.
